Romana Iorga

Alternative Fact Emporium

Each of these plausible truths

is fully retractable.

The lever, when pulled at the right

angle, will blow real smoke

up your incredulousness. Try

this cute conspiracy here. With only

one panic button, pushed

at intermittent blinks and blips,

it operates on minimum

faith at maximum capacity.

It’s wondrously easy

to recharge: all you must do

is hold it like a pebble

between your teeth and grin

straight into the sun.

Romana Iorga is the author of Temporary Skin (Glass Lyre Press, 2024) and "a woman made entirely of air" (Dancing Girl Press, 2025). Her poems have appeared in various journals, including New England Review, Lake Effect, The Nation, as well as on her poetry blog at clayandbranches.com.
