Many Worlds

Churning in chaos—

The wind blows south and east in revolutions,

            one, then the other.

A school of fish banks to the left,

            though this is considered natural.

The light of a metered on-ramp blinks

            green, then red. Green again.

The doorknob of your front door 2.3 times per day,

            when measured in the aggregate.

A coin comes up heads six times in a row

before coming up tails. You think this

                        should mean something.

You pocket the quarter. Later, it rattles against

the white interior of your dryer before falling

                        into the lint catcher.

Lightning strikes twice in your neighborhood—

            the power stays on.

Only when the sun sets through your window

can you see the motes of dust.
