Oisín Breen

“The Heart’s Arrow”

although you consumed

the faults of the world

through a thin pane

of glass, which separated

each day, my mind

was yours, for as long

as you spared me,

more than you spared

others,

but the images

that haunted

your waking

left us

arguing

over and over

the nature

of blood,

so our bond

proved kindling

washed through sand:

a pyre of wet wood,

where once

there was

love.
