Church Service Christ would have liked that church. Blue collars who didn’t have a building. Scrambling on Thursdays to find a place to meet come Sunday. From school auditoriums to back yards, the dedicated few met. My uncle followed that troupe around and brought me a couple of times. I didn’t have to wear a tie or slacks; blue jeans would do. I don’t remember much. Except the singing. Just a cappella. Led by the local barber. He had bad hair but a mean baritone. Dave Malone holds degrees from Ottawa University and Indiana State. He is a poet and screenwriter who lives in the Missouri Ozarks, and his most recent poetry book is Bypass (Aldrich Press, 2023).
